Prophecy is real.
Let me give you two examples:
1. Daniel 9:25 - the prophecy says that there would be 69 weeks of years between the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem and the arrival of Messiah.
The Biblical/Jewish calendar is lunar rather than solar. In the Bible a year is composed of 12 months, each month consisting of 30 days (360 days per year).
Daniel's prophecy, which we know without a doubt was written at least several hundred years before Christ came, proposed that there would be exactly 483 lunar years between this "decree" and the arrival of Messiah. This is 173,880 days, to be exact.
Our modern BC/AD calendar uses Gregorian/solar years, and 483 Jewish years would be 476 solar years.
The decree was given on Thursday, March 5th, 444 BC by King Artaxerxes to Nehemiah to rebuild Jerusalem. Jesus was most likely crucified in 33 AD. Friday, April 3, 33 AD, to be exact. He was anointed at Bethany (becoming the Anointed One) and rode into Jerusalem 5 days earlier, which was exactly 476 solar years / 173,880 days after the decree was given on March 5th, 444 BC.
2. Ezekiel 4:4-6 - the prophecy says that because Israel and Judah turned against God, their due punishment would last 430 years. The prophets Ezekiel and Jeremiah prophesied at the beginning of the Babylonian captivity.
Jeremiah prophesied that the Jews would remain in Babylonian captivity for 70 years (Jeremiah 25:11).
The Babylonian captivity lasted from 606 BC to 536 BC. At the end of that time, many Jews were able to return to the Promised Land. This 70 year period thus reduced the total time of punishment down to 360 years (430-70=360).
...But God's chosen people did not repent in 536 BC. And that thus invoked Leviticus 26:18, which stated that if after punishment was endured, the people failed to repent, then God would punish them seven times over. 360 years x 7 = 2520 years left of punishment.
There are 2483 solar years in 2520 Jewish years (2520 years x 360 days = 907,200 days; 907,200 days / 365.25 days = 2483 solar years).
There were exactly 2483 solar years between 536 BC and 1948 AD... the year Israel became a nation again and this particular punishment ended.
