The Millennium - A Key to Understanding Bible Prophecy

Israel's Long Awaited Messiah

The Millennium

Once a friend said kindly to me, "Dolley, I know you are interested in this but nobody really wants to talk about the end of the world."

I appreciated the sentiment and did my best to explain that it wasn't the end of the world, it was Bible Prophecy!  There was amazing things coming, the Rapture, the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, the Millennium, New Jerusalem, the Church's role in Eternity... How can you not be excited about this?  Don't you see the signs?  He is Coming Back Soon!

She smiled and listened because she loves me but she did not really understand.  So for all of you out there who just don't get it, let me tell you about the Millennium.  The Golden Age, the time that man has longed for since the Fall, Eden reclaimed.

At the Second Coming, the Lord will rule on earth in peace for 1000 years.  I used to believe that we did not have many scriptures on the Millennium, that belief came from the confusion over the short passages at the end of Revelation.  The Old Testament, by contrast, is full of all sorts of Millennial prophecies.  Their presence is why many Jews failed to recognize Christ's first coming and why Jewish rabbis can so easily dismiss Jesus to any Jew that asks about him.  In essence because Jesus did not fulfill the Golden Age Millennial prophecies at His first coming, Jews feel free to reject Him as Messiah.  The rabbis fail to teach on the suffering servant, they fail to teach the redemptive nature of a messiah who sacrifices himself as a Passover lamb, they fail to teach the whole truth.

So let us look at a few passages about Messiah and the Golden Age to come:

King David
The Covenant with David:

Jeremiah 33:15-17 In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch of David to spring forth; and He shall execute justice and righteousness on the earth. In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell in safety; and this is the name by which she will be called: the LORD is our righteousness.' For thus says the LORD, 'David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel.

Establishment of His Kingdom:

Isaiah 2:1-5 "And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."

The Holy City
Jewish Tribulation Survivors in the Holy City:

Isaiah 4:2-6 (AMP)  In that day the Branch of the Lord shall be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land shall be excellent and lovely to those of Israel who have escaped. And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy, everyone who is recorded for life in Jerusalem and for [a]eternal life, After the Lord has washed away the [moral] filth of the daughters of Zion [pride, vanity, haughtiness] and has purged the bloodstains of Jerusalem from the midst of it by the spirit and blast of judgment and by the spirit and blast of burning and sifting.   And the Lord will create over the whole site, over every dwelling place of Mount Zion and over her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory shall be a canopy (a defense of divine love and protection).  And there shall be a pavilion for shade in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge and a shelter from storm and from rain.

First and Second Coming Mix:

Isaiah 35, Isaiah 41:18-20, Micah 4:1-8, and Psalm 2 Are a mix of the first and the second coming, the Joy that overflows in these chapters is contagious.

Promises of Prosperity and Peace:

Isaiah 60:10-22 “You have been hated and left empty with no one passing through.  But I will make you great from now on; you will be a place of happiness forever and ever."

Lion and the Lamb
Promises of Safety from Dangerous Animals:

Isaiah 11:6-9  The nursing child shall play over the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the adder’s den.  Ezekiel 34:25 I will make a covenant of peace with them and eliminate dangerous animals in the land, so that they may live securely in the wilderness and sleep in the forest.

More Promises About the Light from Jerusalem:

Isaiah 60:19-20 "The sun will no longer be your light during the day  nor will the brightness from the moon be your light, because the Lord will be your light forever, and your God will be your glory. Your sun will never set again, and your moon will never be dark, because the Lord will be your light forever, and your time of sadness will end.

Long Life in the Millennium and an age limit to unbelieving man:

Isaiah 65:17-25 "For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. But be ye glad and rejoice forever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying. There shall be no more thence an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not filled his days: for the child shall die an hundred years old; but the sinner being an hundred years old shall be accursed. And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them. They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat: for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and mine elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands."

King Jesus
The Lord's Promise to Dwell with His People:

Ezekiel 43:6-7 Then I heard Him speaking to me from the temple, while a man stood beside me. And He said to me, “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever. No more shall the house of Israel defile My holy name, they nor their kings, by their harlotry or with the carcasses of their kings on their high places.

So you see, the study of Bible Prophecy is not a study about the End of the World, it's a study about hope and peace that is to come.
