Hezbollah Consolidates Power In Lebanon
The Lebanese Parliament has elected an ally of Hezbollah as the country's next president, giving Hezbollah hegemony over the once divided nation. The new president, Michel Aoun, is quoted as saying he is ready to retake land from the "Israeli occupation".
In 2006, Aoun signed a formal agreement of alliance between his Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah, and has consistently backed the Shi’ite group ever since.
