Tragedy Strikes Florida

A horrifying tragedy has struck the people of Parkland, Florida today after an expelled student, Nikolas Cruz, entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and opened fire on his unsuspecting former classmates.  The psychopath injured dozens and murdered 17 in cold blood.  A news helicopter captured footage of Cruz's arrest:

A quick-thinking YouTuber managed to make an internet archive of Cruz's Instagram account before it was taken down, which shows a picture with "Allahu Akbar," so there may be reason to believe this was an ISIS-inspired attack.

Please be in prayer tonight for the grieving families of Parkland and for the injured.  Please pray that the gospel would illuminate the lives of many, many people through this tragedy.

This is the third deadliest school shooting in United States history, and eighth deadliest overall.  It also happened to fall exactly 6,000 days since September 11, 2001:

With the inclusion of this horrific mass murder, the first, second, fifth, eighth, and ninth deadliest, non-war related shootings in American history have all happened within just the last two and a half years (source).

This is the history of the generations of Noah: Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time.  Noah walked with God.  Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.  The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.  God saw the earth, and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

God said to Noah, 'I will bring an end to all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them and the earth.'
- Genesis 6:9–13

As Ecclesiastes says, "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun..." and we can certainly now see the truth of that.

As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.  For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away.  That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
- Matthew 24:37–39

We are witnessing the fulfillment of Jesus' words before our very eyes and this shooting is just one small example.

This is now, beloved, the second letter that I have written to you; and in both of them I stir up your sincere mind by reminding you; that you should remember the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandments of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior: knowing this first, that in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts, and saying, 'Where is the promise of his coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.'  For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the word of God; by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished.  But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.  But don’t forget this one thing, beloved, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
- 2 Peter 3:1–9

Just this past week, in another corner of the country, a police officer in the Richardson Police Department in North Texas was gunned down—the first police fatality in the department's entire history.  The pastor of that officer's home church had some very stirring words about the situation we now find ourselves in and I would encourage you to listen to it here (starting at 1:59:15):

Maranatha.

    1. No doubt there was demonic involvement.

It's amazing to me how after every one of these shooting, the authorities and the media just want to cast it off as "a mentally deranged/unstable individual," rather than admit the obvious that evil exists and this person willfully chose evil.

Man's very nature is wickedness and that's the fundamental political distinction between left and right—the left doesn't believe that.

    1. His full name was Nikolas de Jesus Cruz. Nikolas meaning 'victory of the people', and De Jesus Cruz meaning 'of Jesus Cross'. Unusual thats for certain (ref to the Romans???). As a side note - the commissioner fronting the investigation is a 'Mr Israel', and there were 4 Jews injured in the group, and 1 was killed.

All speculative at this stage, but lets see what the rest of the week brings.

Also, I don't know of any time where lots of people were living over 100 again. We must remember that Methusalah was also part of the times of Noah...

    3. It seems to never end and only keeps getting worse. The sadness is overwhelming. The slaughter of innocents is certainly pure evil. The refusal of many in American society to acknowledge this simple fact is at least partially the cause of these types of tragedies. Only an armed and ready good guy or gal can stop someone intent on committing these heinous acts. Until American society as a whole accepts that evil exists and lives/prepares accordingly, spiritually, mentally and physically, we remain at risk. Prayers for the children and families in Florida. I cannot imagine living through the loss of a child. God help us.

    4. Personally - I think the gun laws in the US are crazy. in NZ, the profiling once has to go through just to be able to own a 303 is crazy, but necessary. But no-one in their right mind lets a semi-automatic be able to be purchased here. Any country who tsk tsk's any question of restricting gun control, but then wholeheartedly lets the most violent games known to man be purchased and played with almost no restriction by our young kids (x-box, playstation etc), is asking for future trouble.

    6. Disagree 100% Through and Through for too many reasons to get into here. There's a reason that the Founders of the US Constitution, who lived through a tyrannical government, wrote "Shall not be infringed" in the Second Amendment. Murderers have no regard for any law. Guns laws only place good, law-abiding people at a severe disadvantage ultimately resulting in complete loss of freedom. Citizens are armed. Subjects are unarmed. The history on this subject is crystal clear and irrefutable. Enough said.

      Delete
    7. "the history on this subject is crystal clear and irrefutable". And what part of history had a society that was as dogmatic in spreading its socialistic ideologies as this one? R18 hard core porn and violence can be accessed by anyone at any time and of any age. How many violent video games do you think the founders had been exposed to when developing the Amendments? And this is the problem - you force acceptance of weapons that have always been and only been used for violence, and you tell the world 'we have rights', yet do nothing about the demonic violence being force fed into our kids on a daily basis. What wise parent would ever take their 3 year old to a lolly shop, tell them they are allowed to pick out and eat one lolly only, and then tell them that they will be back in an hour to check on progress. Totally nonsensical.

    8. This is the battle we parents fight every day Ryan and to varying degrees we fight it no matter where we live.

Yes, it is nonsensical and an assault on our families aimed at the very heart and soul of the individual. I know that I am in the minority in this forum, but I do agree with your statement.

No measure of filtering can defend against violent online gaming and porn. Perhaps if I home school (which I do), have no online computers (which my work depends upon), no cable tv (which we don't) and live under a rock (which we can't and are not called to) we would be safe.

We hear about "parental control" and the responsibility we have to control what our children see. What control? This ilk is rammed down our throats through every corner of society. It is spread like a disease on the playgrounds and in the classrooms. On every toy, in every store in every display. The slippery slope of electronic entertainment and gaming very quickly descends into porn and filth for which the ONLY response I have been able to conjure is to teach our family to RUN away from it when they encounter it.

This, my friends, is a hot button item for us and one which marks the front lines in the war we were born into.

Any means that causes division between peoples is a weapon that may be used to control societies on an socio-economic level. Keep people at odds with one another and what can you do? Keep them from taking away what the "haves" have. Money and power. It is a known fact and tactic used through the ages and is still alive and well today folks. This is a preferred weapon of the enemy and is used to defend the whore we know as Babylon the Great.

Guns, racism, porn, violent gaming are all part of the same plan cooked up from the pit of hell. It began with the fall, saw the murder of Able and stains humanity to this day. Just as G-d warned Cain of sin awaiting him, Jesus commands us to love one another.

      Love.

That is our command. That is the Law.

If we are unsure or have a question on the law we have three sources to rely upon, the Holy Spirit, the Bible and each other. Is there any wonder that the enemy drives a wedge between people(s)? How many of us *here* have read the Bible cover to cover? More than once? Read it daily? Share their faith through their daily living?

I'm not asking for answers to these questions here and neither am I judging. I am sharing my heart on a point for which I am most passionate.

Mankind was born into the middle of a war and 17 more people have just been added to the list of casualties. How many more will perish today the names of which we will never know?

If we are to be know by the name of our maker (Christ) and be the image bearers and message bearers of that title (Christian); then it's all hands to battle stations. The charge has been sounded, the Mission Bell is ringing, time to scramble and get praying. Praying with friends. Praying as a family. Praying in small groups. Praying as missional communities. Praying as co-workers during lunch and breaks. Praying as a church.

Prayer and the love that it brings are our preferred weapons. Use them with force and to great effect. This is the Theatre of Operation to which we have been called for as surely as you are a Christian, you are then a minister of the faith and a leader of such.

Enjoy the privileges of that high office you have been given in fear, reverence and humility.

Yes, Ryan, it is totally nonsensical.

I invite everyone to join us in prayer for our hearts, our children, our families, our friends, our churches, our leaders, our respective nations for their blessing and encouragement unto the coming Day.

      Love like there's no tomorrow,

    10. Dear Richard, as we as German parents are not allowed to homeschool at all there is no alternative to public school for Christians in my country. Weapons or not, gun law or not, violence is also increasing in EVERY section of daily life. We could avoid smartphone and internet access for our kid at a young age but then he went to use the school server instead without our knowledge; today he's very keen on programming (and good at it)... I think the only thing that EVER matters to Christian parents is that your children get saved by Jesus Christ so that no man and no other creature nor power can harm them Romans 8:38-39! So THIS must be your first aim to get your child out of Satans way of soul destruction, nothing else. We thank God we know our son is safe from childhood on (because actually he was chose even before we as parents were and he played some part in our salvation) but we had our trials too later when he grew up, still being a sinful human in the flesh. But to know about Romans 8:38-39 for your child is the best protection a mother or father can have so even if it is killed during a shooting or any other dangerous incident you will know it will not go to hell ever. Isn't that the only possible and proper perspective of Christian parents towards their children? Best regards, MARANATHA!

Let's see how long the Perpetrator lives, to reveal his secrets. The Political Civil War is alive and well. How long before it transforms into a National Civil War, is the question..?.. 3. In 1991 a book was published by William Cooper entitled, Behold A Pale Horse. On page 225 we read the following:
"Using drugs and hypnosis on mental patients in a process called Orion, the CIA inculcated the desire in these people to open fire on schoolyards and thus inflame the anti gun lobby."

Bill Cooper proclaimed that the CIA had developed means to hypnotize people and they were going to use school shootings as the vehicle to be used to take away private gun rights. Keep in mind that the Columbine School shooting did not take place until 1999, eight years after Cooper's book was published.

The prediction by Cooper of school shootings being carried out by medicated and hypnotized subjects becomes very real when we read on page 168 of the Senate hearing dated August 3,1977 on the MKUltra program that CIA operatives were developing "tuned sound waves" to control a person and their behavior. They revealed that a "blast duration" of 1/10 of a second would suffice, and that "masking a noise of this duration should not be difficult." And now we have cell phones!...the CIA's useful tool for "tuned sound waves." They were also creating ways by which a subject would have no recollection of what he had just been programmed to do.

On June 28, 2001, Bill Cooper made the following statement with absolutely no doubt of it becoming a reality: "Be prepared for a major attack. But it won't be Osama bin Laden, it will be the NWO. Whatever is going to happen they are going to blame it on Osama bin Laden---don't believe it."

There was no way "they" could let Bill Cooper live much longer after 9/11, and they did not. He was gunned down at his home in Eager, AZ on the night of November 5, 2001 by Apache county deputy sheriffs. There are no witnesses, and the only report we will ever have is the one from the very entities that ended his life....how convenient.

The MKUltra program was just the beginning. It never ended, just changed names as it became more technical and more hideous. Man's heart is not more kind and loving since 1953, just the opposite. Paul makes that clear in 2 Timothy 3:1-4. And all of these things were talked about by Cooper before the public was remotely aware. And we are still very much unaware...Cooper talked about a deep state government long before anyone imagined such a thing.

The new Netflix series, "Stranger Things" and also "Wormwood", are both based upon the MKUltra program...The "Wormwood" series is about the murder of Dr. Frank Olson on November 27,1953 (who was a scientist involved and already knew too much about MKUltra) and his son's 60 year search for the truth.

  9. As this article said, violence *filled* the earth. *Filled* is the keyword.
I listened to a Christian talk show this morning as the guest spoke of parents of these children suing the school system, the state and so on because of policies not allowing guns that would help to defend our children etc.
It is a horrific example of our society losing their minds and throwing common sense out the door. Ultimately, they have turned their backs on God, while their mouths are *filled* with demanding their rights, to the detriment of the common good and to the detriment of their own well-being.

  10. According to Arutz Sheva "and a significant portion of the student body at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where the shooting took place, is Jewish.

“This is a small community, where nearly half of the population is Jewish, so everyone has been touched by what has happened,” said Rabbi Shuey Biston, of the Chabad of Parkland.

ZAKA has identified five Jewish victims from the massacre, including 14-year-old Jaime Guttenberg, 15-year-old Alyssa Al-Hadeff, 18-year-old Meadow Pollack, 35-year-old geography teacher Scott Beigel, and the school’s 49-year-old athletic division director, Chris Hixon.

Along with Beigel and Hixon, a third staff member, Aaron Feis, 37, was also identified as a victim of the mass shooting.

Fourteen-year-old Martin Duque, a freshman, was also confirmed dead on Thursday, Newsweek reported.". A sixth victim was shot three times but survived. So, anti-Semitism may be the motivation as attacks on Jews have risen dramatically very recently all over the world. Please pray for their safety.

    2. A woman I counsel recently shared that a co-worker of her's was having really bad emotional problems and talked a lot about suicide and violence against a person with which they had a relationship. She asked if I would talk to them as they really needed help. I agreed.

This troubled person called me a few nights later from the driveway of their former partner with intent to commit a murder suicide. G-d had other plans.

Since that time the troubled person has accepted Christ and being discipled and has otherwise turned their life on a new path.

The Lord made a way that a person who cared, reached out to someone for help. That person said, "yes" and by G-d's grace was able to prevent a tragic event from happening.

      What if? Yes, what if.

I started shooting at age four and grew up shooting, hunting, casting our bullets and reloading our own ammo in Northwest Oregon. Living on what we hunted was normal just as it was to cut-up deer and elk for the freezer. My father is a life long NRA member and I went to a junior high school that had a rifle range and taught marksmanship as a REQUIRED PE class.

As a matter of fact, I TOOK (WITH PERMISSION) my Connecticut Valley Arms percussion cap pistol that I made from a kit (Christmas present from my father in 1974) to school with me as show and tell! Carried it on the bus in a Safeway shopping bag, in the halls and from class-to-class. My teachers knew I had it and it was all with the school's permission.

That was in the late 1970's.

Sadly, I was not permitted to demonstrate firing the weapon on the school's indoor shooting range. They were afraid that a 40-calibre round would go through the backstop.

Nikolas Cruz came from a broken past. Adopted at an early age. His adopted father died years ago by a heart attack. His adopted mother died of pneumonia this past November. 19-years old and alone with mental and emotional troubles that were WELL KNOWN by the school.

What would have happened had the government institution that is a public school had connected some dots for follow-up? What if our society was geared to function in a way that we are called to by Christ?

      Hmmm, what if?

      Just sayin'

Mentally unstable or not, they will find ways to get guns. We need to protect our rights to be able to defend ourselves. Taking away rights to own guns will not prevent these acts of violence. 5. Yes—not a gun problem. It's a godless nation / godless school / godless media problem. I'm in favor of some small and sensible gun control measures, but I fear Democrats are not wanting sensible compromise (such as national concealed carry reciprocity in exchange for an enforceable national database of mentally ill/felons and closing loopholes). They want to disarm Americans and mutilate the second amendment (imho).

As tragic as these shootings are, it's important that no one makes reactive/emotional decisions based on them. That's what the media wants you to do: ignore facts and just go all in for gun control.

    6. how does one ignore an 'emotional' decision on gun control, when your kid gets his brains blown out by an AR15 bullet. Sorry - but anyone who doesn't get a little emotional with that needs to ask some pretty tough questions of themselves. Peter was emotional when he sliced off the high priests servants ear, however Jesus answer was not "hey I told you to bring it, therefore let me protect your right to use it!", it was "put away your sword, those who use the sword will die by the sword". Hmm, interesting words to ponder. That being said - I actually agree with 'sensible gun control measures', i.e. no assault rifles for one, and guns should not be allowed in public.

Cathi - Chicago does not have strict gun laws, as most of them were shot down (excuse the pun) a few years ago. In addition, having strict gun laws is pointless if your neighbouring states have extremely lax laws and there is no state line control stopping the gangs bringing them in. NZ's gun homicide rate is just 1.1% of Americas, which begs the question "what are we doing right" or "what is America doing wrong". Coming back to Gary's comments "yes-not a gun problem. Its a godless...problem". Yes agree Gary, however do you know why I don't leave sharp knives on my bench after using them? Its not because 'there is a knife problem', its because I have kids in my house who don't quite have the mental capacity to understand that 'playing with knives is dangerous'. A godless nation doesn't have the spiritual capacity to understand the exact same things. A violent spirit begets violence, we know that. Unfortunately, despite the superficial godless nature of the liberal left in America, maybe they understand that concept a little better than us. Anyway - we are not going to resolve this until our meek and mild Lamb comes and brings/permits violence and justice on this earth like no other time in history. 17 dead kids won't make anyones news, let alone the front page news then. Unbelievable thought.

    7. Well, thanks Through and Through ... I had read this about Chicago after Trump offered the national guard and the mayor was seeking help from the EU and it wasn't that long ago. The point in this article tho was using the EU and seeing the New World Order in this aspect coming about.
I think Gary's main point was sensible gun laws, not taking away our guns completely. My point was school systems having in their budgets already security that includes qualified personnel having access to use guns to defend against someone with a gun.
The cry after such a tragedy is gun control - when the cry should be why did our school not have the security in place to fight back? I see the far left using this to remove guns completely, IMHO. It would be moving our country into a Communist/Socialist government that needs to control the masses and ultimately fit in line with the NWO. Or, the antichrist beast system.
I don't think we were suggesting or insinuating not feeling emotional regarding this most recent tragedy. We were addressing issues beyond the tragedy itself.
I am not seeing using the apostle Peter cutting off the guard's ear as pertaining to this issue or his not having felt emotion when he did so. He was a temperamental guy. The context was Christ and his purpose in coming to earth. He wasn't here to set up His kingdom as the apostles were expecting for him to do - by overthrowing the Roman government. They weren't understanding at this point. And, even shortly before his resurrection, they were still thinking of his returning to set up His kingdom on earth and fight against the Romans.
But, it is a hot-button issue.
A weapon of some kind would be chosen. And, to me this was the point - no one would be able to fight back in these vulnerable school settings where our children should have as much protection as possible against these atrocities.

  14. A close relative of mine works in security and he and his team guard schools all the time for so called "wealthy people". I went to the wrong school where I live to vote and found every entrance locked. The secretary spoke with me via camera/intercom. What if that school in Florida, and all schools for that matter, had an armed security guard ?

    1. We have locked doors and intercom systems at the schools here too. A sad but necessary physical reality. I personally add to this by prayer walking the campus or praying over the campus while dropping off our middle son in the morning. That is something any of us can do and I highly recommend it!

    2. Absolutely. I walk around my house and plead the Blood of Jesus Christ as a Bloodline every month. Imagine if this were done around all schools. I read where a farmer pled the Blood around his farm because wolves were killing his animals and one morning while walking around his farm, he found a dead wolf just beyond the Bloodline. There's Power in the Blood, indeed.

    It's a HEART problem ... Not a gun problem. Jeremiah 17:9

  17. Exactly. It's a heart problem and that's my point. This is what the Bible bears out and what we are challenged by every day.

Every day is a chance to make a new choice. Every day is a chance to build for a new tomorrow. What is the tomorrow we are building?

We have a vineyard to tend for our Master who will return one day. Tending that vineyard out of love for our Master is where our hearts should be.

Yes, it is a matter of heart and that's my whole point. Either we commit to following the command of Love or we don't. Either we commit to loving G-d, loving one another as ourselves or we don't. Either we commit to treating others as we want to be treated or we don't. Either we live our lives as on mission *daily* and carry the message of hope into a world that seems to care less and less or we don't.

We know these things as being all the Law and the Prophets. It's a matter of heart and what we are called to do. Now, what does that look like and what can we as the body of Christ do?

We can either be consumers on Sunday morning or we can contribute and be leaders everyday. I am hopeful and have hope and will continue to do so until I am either taken or called home.

    2. Yes, we were blessed in such a way that we could go on holiday. It was a first of sorts for a chunk of our family. (The younger children). I wish we could live without a car. At least we drive electric!

    1. interesting article Annabel, and reminds me of the spirit of violence that is inherent in many families due to the violent act of abortion. A mum/dad who aborts their first child, is going to be spiritually declaring over all their remaining children this murdering spirit. Man - terrifying times ahead.

p.s. - if anyone ever comes to NZ, there is always room at our house if you need a vacation!
