Any good works comes from God anyway so He is asking us to declare our faith in Him by producing good works, just as He did with Abraham when He asked him to sacrifice Isaac. Abraham proved the reality of his faith. Just as Rahab justified her faith by taking the messengers in to save them from being destroyed in Jericho. She showed an act of mercy by protecting them. She could have kept silent but she didnt, she showed her faith in God. She could have lost her life in Jericho but her faith saved her. There are benefits to producing good works. Her name was saved in Scripture in the line of Jesus. She was the mother of Boaz, the husband of Ruth.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15393375616545867307noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-923571518579487836.post-10633084254655061982017-07-10T14:37:04.715-05:002017-07-10T14:37:04.715-05:00Very good thoughts. "Good works" are a function of (insert fancy math symbol) Salvation, which is caused by the "love of Christ" constraining a true believer (those baptized by the Holy Spirit into the Body of Christ & sealed, after them coming to faith in the atoning blood of Christ); which results in the body of Christ loving Jesus and wanting to glorify the one who loved us, and gave himself a ransom for our sins.

I'm trying to argue that good works are the "fruits of the spirit" or result of having faith. Basically, as God molds the Body of Christ into the image of his Son, our ability to produce good works that edify and bring glory to Christ is increased as we are "strengthened with might in the inner man."

If that's rightly divided, then by studying to show thyself an approved workman, rightly dividing the word of truth, one should produce more good works as one's faith becomes more grounded in the way/the truth/the life/JESUS!

~Brandon
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
