“Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages" - Massive Locust Swarm

As mentioned several posts below, a massive locust swarm is enveloping southern Russia eating everything in sight.  It is being described as the largest swarm in three decades.

Consider Revelation 6:5-6 and the rider on a black horse in light of the fact that Russia is the world's first largest barley producer, fourth largest wheat producer, and second largest rye producer.  The entire sky is noticeably darkened by the swarm.  According to a study by the Australian government, wheat is the #1 food of choice by locusts, followed by barley.

What incredibly perfect timing.

  1. WHAT FOLLOWS REPENTANCE AND WATER BAPTISM? BY STEVE FINNELL

What follows repentance and immersion in water? According to the apostle Peter, forgiveness of sins and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit follows repentance and baptism. On the Day of Pentecost Peter preached Jesus as Lord and Savior and then told them to repent and be baptized.

Acts 2:36-38 "Therefore let the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." 37 Now when they heard this , they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" 38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.(NKJV)

What follows believing that Jesus is Lord and Christ, repentance, and water baptism? The answer is forgiveness of sins and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:38 And Peter replied, "Each one of you must turn from sin, return to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; then you also shall receive this gift, the Holy Spirit.(TLB-The Living Bible)

What follows repentance and water baptism?
Acts 2:38........for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (EXB-The Expanded Bible)

Acts 2:38 .......so that your sins will be forgiven; and you will receive God's gift, the Holy Spirit.(GNT-Good New Translation)

Acts 2:38......for the remission of sins, and you ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.(KJV)

Forgiveness from sins and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit follows faith, repentance, and immersion in water.

  2. Many want a Savior, few want a Lord.

Interesting the focus on an altar call, sinner's prayer recitation or baptism that is so prevalent in much of Christendom. While I hear the message in Acts 2:38 and Mark 16:16 and I certainly agree with God's command, I am impressed with God's call to Faith.

To know the depth of our depravity, utter separation and the all together otherness of HIS RIGHTEOUS HOLINESS should call us not to look for the minimum requirements for salvation, but with the greatest of overwhelming gratitude move into the deep water of life in Christ.

Whenever the rapture occurs there are going to be many who name the name of Christ who are in shocked rapt horror and denial that they are left behind.

But I was baptized, but I prophesied in your name, but I healed in your name....

It is stunning how many professing Christ followers are disobedient to this most initial basic command.

Is is essential? Spending the first 46 years of my life in the Churches of Christ, I once believed this fervently.

However the evidence of your faith is obedience, love and transformed.

I've buried a lot of baptised yet unregenerate professors of faith, who had little evidence.

Let us not be hearers only, but doers.

These things are written that we may know we have eternal life...

Lord let me not hug the safety of the shore in the shallow water that claims verses, obedience to certain commands, but let me deny myself, surrender to your Lordship and let the rear view mirror of my life, scream evidence of Your transformation in my life.

    1. Amen to everything you have said here Greg. As our dependence upon our Lord grows and we are doers of His Word and not just hearers, our desire to put to death that which is carnal grows and we become more like Him.
