Worst Cholera Outbreak In The World

The World Health Organization calls it "the worst cholera outbreak in the world."  The outbreak in Yemen has spread to nearly a quarter million people and several thousand have died.  I'm reminded of Luke 21:11:

There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.

Despite the magnitude of this present outbreak, it isn't this one disease that points us to Luke 21:11.  It is the sudden convergence of outbreaks and global diseases all at once over the last several years: Ebola, SARS, Zika, West Nile, Yellow Fever, Measles, Malaria, Cholera, and the reemergence of diseases previously thought contained like Bubonic Plague and Polio.

Surely there have always been earthquakes, famines, and pestilences throughout history, but consider that there are record-breaking earthquakes, famines, and pestilences all at once now and the fourth item mentioned in Luke 21:11 is in place as well - this year in fact.

  1. SOUTHCOM held a 10,000 person Haitian Relief Drill in Miami as the Earthquake hit Port au Prince; the Drill went live. The UN sent relief workers who were exposed to Cholera to camps upstream of Port au Prince. Waste was dumped in the river, which predictably caused the still ongoing Cholera Epidemic. Port au Prince's radio station played the Eagle's "Welcome to the Hotel California" in a continuous loop as the event unfolded.
