The World Order Is Changing

I’ve been quiet these last few weeks, silently watching a number of dramatic world events unfold, including the pacification of Venezuela, the most widespread protests in Iran in many years, an intense campaign by President Trump to gain control of Greenland, and the unveiling of the Board of Peace, which was formally established yesterday at a signing ceremony in Davos. In the midst of these monumental shifts, the U.S. has left 66 international organizations, signaling a clear departure from the post-World War II “rules-based” world order. Meanwhile, a large buildup of American air and naval forces in the Middle East is purportedly preluding a largescale attack on Iran. Simultaneously, the U.S. is likely plotting the overthrow of the communist government in Cuba by year’s end.

The list of outright enemies of the U.S. grows thin, and as the dust settles, I can’t help but wonder—close as we are to the next stage in Bible prophecy—if perhaps things are unfolding differently than many expect. The Bible provides a clear framework: (1) rapture, (2) rise of the beast, (3) seals, (4) trumpets, (5) abomination, (6) Great Tribulation and bowls of wrath, and (7) the physical return of Christ as supreme world ruler. But what each of these things actually looks like on the ground, and how the stage is set, require a lot of guesswork.

In the realm of speculation, if a certain theory regarding the proper interpretation of Ezekiel 38 and 39 is correct (see here and here), we might actually be much closer than many realize. In fact, we might be so close that what we see crystalizing on the world stage—even the new Board of Peace, the resurgence of a militant United States, and the rise of Israel as the Middle East’s top power—could be the main show rather than just a sideshow. Of late, two little nuggets on social media really made me stop and think:

The first, a post by Atelier Missor, a French foundry that is planning to build the tallest statue in the Western Hemisphere here in the United States. It’s called the Guardian of Liberty, and it will exceed the Statue of Liberty.

What caught my attention is how Atelier Missor describes itself: “A classical foundry in Paris, on its way to building a new Rome.” What piqued my interest even more is that Elon Musk is now onboard and signaled that he may fund their megaproject. This is the same Musk who has repeatedly called the United States the new Rome. While it is evident to me that the kingdom of the Antichrist is indeed a R.R.E. (“Revived Roman Empire”) of sorts, and not an Islamic caliphate as a few teach, the idea that this R.R.E. must be geographically located in the Mediterranean region is mere speculation. Consider:

1. Global military hegemony: Like Rome’s legions dominating the Mediterranean world, the U.S. maintains unmatched military reach with bases worldwide and interventions that enforce its influence.

2. Cultural and linguistic dominance: English spreads globally as Latin did, while American media, entertainment, and values export a unifying “imperial” culture (Pax Americana).

3. Republican foundations with imperial power: The U.S. began as a republic modeled on the Roman Republic (Senate, Capitol, checks and balances), yet wields empire-like authority over allies and global affairs.

4. Architecture and symbolism: Washington D.C. draws heavily from Roman styles (domes, columns, eagles), signaling deliberate inheritance of Roman grandeur.

5. Economic and infrastructural empire: Rome built roads and aqueducts for control; the U.S. promotes dollar dominance, trade networks, and global institutions that bind the world economically.

6. Debates over decline and overreach: Both face imperial overstretch, internal divisions, and warnings of moral/civic decay mirroring Rome’s late-republic and imperial challenges.

7. Deliberate modeling on the Roman Republic by the Founders: The U.S. was intentionally designed as a successor to Rome’s republican system. John Adams quoted Cicero extensively; George Washington was likened to Cincinnatus. They saw America as the “natural inheritor of Roman liberty,” infusing Roman ideals into its institutions while seeking to avoid Rome’s corruption.

8. Ethnic and multicultural composition: Both were/are vast, multi-ethnic melting pots. Rome incorporated diverse peoples across its empire—granting citizenship widely (e.g., Edict of Caracalla in AD 212)—with non-Italian emperors and heavy immigration. The U.S. absorbs immigrants from every continent, blending ethnicities under a unifying civic identity. Notably (and key for connecting this line of thinking to Daniel 9), a large plurality (often majority when combined) of Americans trace roots to ethnically Latin and/or European peoples from former Roman lands or vassals (Italy, Spain, France, England, etc.), via direct European ancestry.

9. Precisely overlays the geographic Roman Empire: The contiguous U.S. is precisely situated at the same latitudes as the ancient Roman Empire.

10. Has a stunning number of cities called Rome: ~23 called “Rome” by one count and three called “New Rome.” More than any other country, by far.   

The U.S. isn’t modeled on Babylon; it’s modeled on Rome. Indeed, “[i]t’s no secret the American Founders sought to emulate and perfect the Roman Republic” (source). It’s an iron-beast-in-waiting, at the tail end of its republic stage.

The second, a report by Israel Channel 14 that suggests the U.S. and Israel have teamed up to completely reshape and reshuffle the global order. This is precisely what I imagine the woman riding the beast image might represent (Rev. 17). The woman, the whore, the prostitute is a consistent symbol of apostate Israel and Jerusalem throughout the Old Testament, confirmed by both Christ (e.g., Mt. 23:35–39) and Paul (Gal. 4:21–31).

Whether it be a literally rebuilt Babylon in the Middle East, a Russian-Iranian-Turkish-Libyan-Ethiopian military alliance to confront Israel, or a powerful 10-nation military alliance in Europe—none of these speculative developments have materialized, and yet they continue to be defended as sure things. I find that very suspect. What we do see, however, is the U.S. and Israel resurgent and at the top of the food chain, mark of the beast and image of the beast technology seemingly riding in on an unstoppable technological wave via cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence, a forced peace spreading across the Middle East via the Abraham Accords and Trump’s 20-Point Plan, and a new world order rising via the Board of Peace, which has been cast as a United Nations with teeth. “[B]y peace [he] shall destroy many” (Dan. 8:25, KJV).

Are we close or not? If we are, what is unfolding fits precisely with the pages of Holy Writ, including the clear prophetic framework revealed in Scripture. Yet what we see may not fit so well with our preconceived notions and speculations that are the product of the geopolitics of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Prophecy was perfectly fulfilled at Christ’s first coming, and it will likewise be perfectly fulfilled at His second, but many didn’t understand then and many will not understand now. Fealty to God’s Word, humility before God’s Spirit, and a willingness to challenge entrenched speculations seem to me to be necessary prerequisites for the proper understanding of Bible prophecy.
