The Summer Harvest (Part I)

A Basket of Summer Fruit: The Sign of the End for Israel

What does the “basket of summer fruit" in Amos 8 represent? Does this vision of the end correspond to any other summer harvest imagery in the Law and the Prophets?

And He said, ‘Amos, what do you see?’ So I said, ‘A basket of summer fruit.’ Then the LORD said to me: ‘The end has come upon My people Israel; I will not pass by them anymore.” (Amos 8:1-2, NKJV).

The Hebrew word often translated as “summer fruit” is qayits (Strong’s 7019). In Amos’ recorded vision, “summer fruit” (qayits) is in parallel to “the end,” which is the Hebrew word qets (Strong’s 7093). This play-on-words emphasizes and reinforces the connection between the reaping of a summer harvest and the time of Israel’s judgment.

Amos’ vision sets the tone for Jeremiah’s lament over Israel’s time of judgment:

I will take away their harvest,

declares the LORD.

There will be no grapes on the vine,

nor figs on the tree,

and even the leaf will wither.

Whatever I have given them will be lost to them.” (Jer. 8:13, BSB)

A few verses later in the same context, Jeremiah confirms the connection between God’s harvest/removal of summer fruit and Israel’s judgment (i.e., they are “left behind”):

My sorrow is beyond healing;

my heart is faint within me.

Listen to the cry of the daughter of my people

from a land far away:

“Is the LORD no longer in Zion?

Is her King no longer there?”

“Why have they provoked Me to anger

with their carved images,

with their worthless foreign idols?”

The harvest has passed, the summer (qayits) has ended,

but we have not been saved.” (Jer. 8:18-20, BSB)

Note the familiar pattern that is found elsewhere in Scripture, specifically regarding the coming 70th week or Tribulation period:

Israel is in distress, because the King has left (Jesus + Church/Resurrection & Rapture); Deuteronomy 32:21 is fulfilled:

They have made Me jealous by [what is] not God, | They made Me angry by their vanities; And I make them jealous by [what is] not a people, | I make them angry by a foolish nation.” (LSV)

And a gathering/reaping of the summer harvest has been accomplished (Amos 8:1-2).

“The Basket” (Amos 8:1, 2)

The Hebrew word kelub (Strong’s 3619) is related to the word keleb, “dog” (Strong’s 3611). The Hebrew consonants are similar: kaph, lamed, bet. The vessel in Amos’ vision containing the end-time summer fruit (kelub) sounds like “dog,” a word that is also related to Joshua’s companion, Kaleb/Caleb, (Strong’s 3612, son of Jeph). Caleb is another type of a Gentile who was grafted into God’s royal family!

Compare with Isaiah 17:10-11 (another vision of a summer harvest reaping + a Gentile branch grafted in + a connection to a specific Gentile from Scripture, “Naamans”):

“For you have forgotten the God of your salvation and have not remembered the Rock of your refuge; therefore, though you plant pleasant plants (naamanim) and sow the vine-branch of a stranger, though you make them grow on the day that you plant them, and make them blossom in the morning that you sow, yet the harvest will flee away in a day of grief and incurable pain.” (ESV).

See Isaiah 17–18: The Root, Shoot, and Fruit of Jesse

In the Greek translation of Amos 8:1, 2, the vessel or container is referred to as an aggos/aggeion, (Strong’s 30). In the New Testament, this term is connected to Gentiles…gathered into a basket/container/vessel…at the end of the age.

Matthew 13:48-50, “Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like to a net that was cast into the sea, and gathered together of every kind, which, when it was filled, having drawn up again on the beach, and having sat down, they gathered the good into vessels (aggos), and the bad they cast out, so will it be in the full end of the age, the messengers will come forth and separate the evil out of the midst of the righteous, and will cast them into the furnace of the fire; there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.”

Also, the “basket” of fish in the feeding of the 4,000 (Mark 6) is connected to the gathering of the fullness of Gentiles during the Church Age (John 21/Romans 11) and signified by Paul’s deliverance in a “basket” from his enemies in Damascus (see Rapture Typology in Acts 9).

Bonus: The Greek word opora “(summer) fruit” is connected to the dog star (Sirius); harvest time and the dog days of summer.

  1. Tomorrow, as the sun rises would be perfect ! I'm ready ! Thank you both for your work on this Summer Fruit message. You've given me much to ponder, and share with Holy Spirit. It feels right to be considering the first "Miracle" being wine at a wedding event somehow linked with the Great Miracle of the raising and rapture of the Bride of Christ . His love enfolding all into a story for the ages. Selah...

    1. Most welcome! Maranatha.

It's amazing that Jesus' ministry began with the Spirit poured out (baptism) and with wine (Wedding at Cana), and ended with wine (Last Supper), His blood poured out, and with the Spirit poured out again (Pentecost).

  2. ...and the First Fruits of New Wine is this Saturday per the Essene calendar and a Super Full Moon is coming a few days later for Tu B'Av per the Civil calendar. A sign of the Groom to come? Could be!

Thirty days later will be another full moon, this time a Super Blue Moon on August 31st with the next full moon on September 29. That's the one I have my eye on.

Hints of the coming wedding feast? Interesting signs leading up to 9/29 - the third full moon from the beginning of this Super Moon/Super Blue Moon series, the only Blue Moon of 2023. Reminiscent of the third day?

    Hmmm...

    1. I'm not sure where to post this, so I hope it's ok to post here. If not please let me know where.
I need help with Matthew 24. It's my understanding that Matthew 24 is about the second coming and not the rapture, is that correct?
So are verses 30 and 31 talking about a gathering to Jerusalem and not a rapture to heaven?
Also if chapter 24 is talking about the second coming, then in verse 36 where it says no one knows the day or the hour, then isn't that talking about the second coming and not the rapture? If it's about the second coming, then why when people talk about the rapture do they use this verse to say that no one knows the day or the hour? Or does verse 36 transition from talking about the second coming to talking about the rapture?
      Any insight would be appreciated.

    2. Hi Russ! Yes, that's exactly right. While there may be allusions to the rapture in Matthew 24, the technical, literal context is the Second Coming. The gather "after the tribulation of those days" is specifically regarding Israel. You can see this by looking at the Old Testament context for what Jesus is talking about (see Isa. 27:12-13).

    3. That is very helpful, thank you so much.
So if Matthew 24 is about the second coming and that is what is being referred to when verse 36 says no one knows the day or hour, then why when talking about the rapture does everyone say no one knows the day or the hour? Is there another verse, separate from Matthew 24 that specifically talks about the rapture and says that no one will know the day or hour?

    4. Hi Russ! This is a good question. I read about some articles of Unsealed. For example "No One Knows The Day Or Hour", Gary, August 24, 2017; "Jesus Is On The Way", Gary, June 22, 2021; also www.gotquestions.org/rapture-tribulation.html.

    5. Hello, Russ,

As Alla D said, "This is a good question."

You asked, "It's my understanding that Matthew 24 is about the second coming and not the rapture, is that correct?"

I am not in agreement that (Matthew 24:29-31) is about the Second Coming. I posit that it is about the Rapture. A restatement of the sixth seal of Revelation. Saying this means that my studies have led me to understand the tribulation from a different perspective than the traditional pre-trib teaching today.

You also asked, "Also if chapter 24 is talking about the second coming, then in verse 36 where it says no one knows the day or the hour, then isn't that talking about the second coming and not the rapture?"

When Jesus spoke of nobody knowing the day or the hour He was talking about the end. The very end. As in when Satan would be thrown into the lake of fire and the dead would be raised at the Great White Throne Judgment (GWTJ). We all know that Satan will be released for a little while but just how long is that? We don't know. That little bit of time between its release and the GWTJ is an unknown quantity and a period of time added to the end of the thousand years. Like others, I submit that Jesus was talking about the end (as in when Death and Hades are cast into the lake of fire) end. It is not about the Rapture or the beginning of the MK.

    6. You, Russ, continue...

"If it's about the second coming, then why when people talk about the rapture do they use this verse to say that no one knows the day or the hour? Or does verse 36 transition from talking about the second coming to talking about the rapture? Any insight would be appreciated."

This is a confusing juncture in Scripture for many and I had to really dig far and wide to come to appreciate it. It all goes back to the original questions asked by the apostles,

      1. When will these things be? (The end)
      2. What will be the sign of your coming?
      3. What will be the sign of the end of the age?

Bearing this in mind helps when studying (Matthew 24) or what we call the Olivet Discourse. We already know when the second temple was destroyed and the signs around that event. Jewish prophecy is all about patterns so if the pattern of the destruction of the second temple is a pattern for the end then the end that Jesus discusses is the end of the age. The Church Age.

This age ends with the advent of the second order of the resurrection of the righteous or what we call the Rapture. This is Christ's coming on the clouds, Day of the Lord, the Wrath of the Lamb as found in the sixth seal of His Revelation. The beginning of the MK occurs at His Second Coming which is generally understood to be a known time being around Yom Kippur. (My study model suggests a Shabbat Shuba, 2030 Second Coming which is the day before Yom Kippur, 2030).

      Jesus teaches us,

9 "Then they will deliver you
up to tribulation and put you
to death, and you will be hated
by all nations for my name's
      sake."

      RED LETTERS (Matthew 24:9 ESV)

      John gives us this perspective,

9 I, John, your brother and
      partner in the tribulation and
      the kingdom and the patient
      endurance that are in Jesus,
      was on the island called
      Patmos on account of the
word of God and the testimony
      of Jesus.

      (Revelation 1:9 ESV)

Just as the kingdom had arrived so too had the tribulation. Not just tribulation but *the tribulation*. John was very specific saying *the tribulation* and not just tribulation or times of trouble. After *the tribulation* will come the Day of the Lord, the Wrath of the Lamb, His coming on the clouds when His elect will be gathered from the four winds, "with a loud trumpet call" and His angels will gather too from one end of heaven to the other.

Who would be the ones gathered from one end of heaven to the other? It sure sounds like those who are asleep in Christ doesn't it? Our brothers and sisters in Christ who have gone before us. They will be first to be raised at the Rapture while we who remain will be last.

With that said, I am more and more on the side that the first five seals are already opened. We are living at the end of the tribulation - the end of the Church Age. The age when the Spirit-filled Church has been sent out conquering and to conquer by the power of the Holy Spirit, in the time of trouble dominated by war, famine, death and pestilence.

I hope this helps. Feel free to bring questions any/all. We as a community thrive on healthy discussion and learning through Spirit-filled topics - especially these which are not salvation related issues.

      Iron sharpens iron.

      Blessings, always,

      PR

    8. Adding a detail...

Here is how the Greek (INT) renders (Matthew 24:29) in a direct translation,

24.29 Immediately then after the tribulation the days of those the sun will be darkened and the moon not will give the light of it and the stars will fall from the sky and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

You can access these translations for FREE via Biblehub.com. Access this passage HERE.

Note the use of "the tribulation" and not "great tribulation". A pin-point? Perhaps. I think it may be and is part of the reason I am moving in the direction I am in my studies.

Sorry for the typo in my previous attempt...

  4. At https://www.ips-journal.eu/topics/democracy-and-society/a-far-right-eu-6854/ "A far-right EU?":

    "A far-right EU?
For a long time, a far-right European Union seemed inconceivable. Today, however, things look rather different"

See also https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2023/7/19/are-we-heading-towards-a-far-right-european-union "Are we heading towards a far-right European Union?".

This confirms my theory that the Revived Roman Empire, consisting of 10 European nations, will be governments with far-right parties. An alliance based upon defense, security, strict migration policy, etc.

  5. September 23, 2023 is when Summer Officially Ends in 2023. September 23, 2023 is EXACTLY Six (6) Years, To The Day, of the 'Great Revelation 12 Sign' (September 23, 2017) which we all know is a reference to the Rapture / Harpazo of the body of Christ, The Bride, The Child. Six (6) is the number of 'man' or man'kind. If the Lord 'waits' until September 23, 2023 for the rapture, He will still be completing the Amos prophecy in Summer! In the West, September is usually thought of a the 'BEGINNING' of the Harvest Season (not the end). From a prophetic standpoint, there are a WHOLE CORNICOPIA set of events taking place around the same period at the end of September 2023. As a Watchman, THE END OF SEPTEMBER IS AN EXTREMELY HIGH WATCH PERIOD. I have a logical reason why the 'Confirmation of the Covenant' with Israel will be confirmed by MbS (Mohammed bin Salman) (666 gematria) in OCTOBER. This would support the belief by most watchmen that the rapture/harpazo takes PLACE BEFORED the Confirmation. The Bible is clear that the Bride is in Heaven, Watching Christ open the first seal (revealing the Beast/Antichrist) as confirming the covenant with Israel. Hence, the Church is NOT on the Earth to witness the confirmation. This is sound Biblical Doctrines that I believe UNSEALED will confirm. Two watchmen confirm a matter. Well done Watchmen at Unsealed.

  6. Feast of Trumpets: September 17th, 2023

For those of you following the World Economic Forum (WEF) et.al., consider the following regarding their PLANNED MEETING on 9/18/2023 for the 'World's' Sustainable Goal Agenda.

The 2023 SDG Summit will take place on 18 September 2023 in New York. It will mark the beginning of a new phase of accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals with high-level political guidance on transformative and accelerated actions leading up to 2030.
    2023-2030 = '7' years.

WHEN IS the US CONSTITUTION DAY 2023?
The guiding force behind the most resilient democratic government ever is celebrated on Constitution Day on September 17, 2023. The only reason I bring this up is that most of the 'foolish nation' (Church) resides in the U.S. We are the last remaining 'major' country of Christians. Just considering ....

  7. I don't think it is a 'coincidence' that I felt prompted to respond to UNSEALED's post regarding the Amos prophecy. Today is July 23, 2023 approximately 8 weeks before September 23, 2023. Eight (8) is the biblical number for change of season, change of program, a new period, a new epoch, a new phase, etc. I am not date setting, all I am doing is suggesting some 'convergences' that have been revealed to me. In my seven (7) years as a watchman, I have had too many 'coincidences' not to be aware of their significance. Geo-Politics in Europe, Israel and Saudi Arabia suggest that the 'time' is at hand. Ignore at your own peril.
Unknown to Gary and UNSEALED, I have been following their ministry, and THEY ARE SPOT ON! And a very reliable source of 'all things prophecy.' The Lord has raised a small army of watchmen in these days to wake up the Church and warn the world.

  8. For me, this year does seem packed with "high watch dates". Right now, I'm most hopeful for the July 26th (Feast of New Wine), but if that passes, Feast of Trumpets would be the next biggest date of interest, then the anniversary of the Great Sign, and if none of those were correct, I'd look to next year. But I really think this is it - our final year.

See you all soon at the celebration before the Throne of God!

  9. PROPHETIC UPDATE:

See new update section titled "TITANIC SIGNS OF JUDGMENT 4 PROPHECY UPDATE: TWITTER SOCIAL MEDIA APP REBRANDED WITH AN "X" - JULY 23, 2023"

This one is rather interesting. I would go so far as to say a major Holy Spirit confirmation ... but that is just me. Perhaps you will think the same thing. It would seem the Lord is telling us to intently watch and pay special attention to this eclipse triad event that shall culminate next year.

    Heads Up!!!
